Floats: One Good, one needs rescue
Float 47 crashed seriously two days ago and has not been talking to us by Iridium. We have ARGOS fixes on it every few hours and expect this to continue. We now understand the reason for the float crashes - a software issue associated with both resetting a command variable and requesting its value at the same time. We have implemented a fix in the shoreside server and therefore don't expect this to affect float 48.
I would like float 47 to be recovered early in the Knorr cruise. This should be straightforward using online ARGOS fixes and the Knorr's radio direction finder, possibly aided by the radio direction finder that we brought with us on the Bjarni. We then hope to clean it up, pull out the data, reload new software, run a set of test missions on the deck and relaunch it if all goes well.
Eric Rehm
should be able to do all these software functions.
This simplifies the targeting of the gliders: all 4 can now gang up on float 48.
